Halloween is upon us again and it is a great time to practice your makeup skills while scaring the bejesus out of your friends. Scary makeup is all the rage this Halloween, and with a few deft strokes of your brush, you should be able to create a look that will frighten the living daylights out of your friends. Below are a few great ideas to help you create an unforgettable look this Halloween.   

1. Blood and Gore

Anything to do with blood is a sure shocker every Halloween and this look can be created with a few makeup essentials and household items. You can even make fake blood from the comfort of your own home by using dark cornstarch, red food coloring, and chocolate. Start by moisturizing your face, and then apply foundation and concealer, mascara, gloss and any other makeup items you will be using. Finally, splatter the fake blood on your face and clothes for a bloody and injured look that is sure to scare and gross out your friends.

2. 3-D Effects with Glitter

Create great 3-D illusions with glitter and makeup for a glamorous look that will both scare and impress your friends. 3-D makeup will make your look pop out more and create depth to the illusion you are trying to create. It is especially effective in creating magical characters such as fairies, witches, extraterrestrial life forms and other fantastical creatures. Application is simple, smudge it on eyes for a disco diva/vampire look, spread it lightly on skin and hair for a scary fairy look or apply it on lower eyelids to make eyes look larger and scarier.

3. Body Paint

Body paint is a great alternative for you if you are the daring type. It can be used in place of costumes and also used to create a variety of effects including eyes, skeletons, fangs, claws and many others. The only thing that will limit you in the use of a body paint sticks is your creativity as it is possible to create whatever type of costume or look you want using a variety of colors and techniques. Simply let your inner artist out, bring out the paint and makeup and start creating a Halloween costume that will have your friends running for the hills.

4. Dark Lipstick Shades

Dark lipstick is great for creating depth in a Halloween character, especially if you plan on going as an evil queen or witch. Dark colors also make your lips look fuller and more real, in addition to lasting longer. The best dark lipstick shades include; black, chocolate, burgundy, midnight blue, plum and others. Matte lipsticks work best during Halloween, although you could go for a glossier option or glitter to achieve the effect you want.

5. Face Paint

Face paint is great for Halloween as it allows you to create virtually limitless looks. The artist in you can go wild with face paint, creating dramatic, vivid and realistic effects that are bound to impress. Clowns, pumpkins, zombies, robots, superheroes, any character can be made from face paints and all you have to do is find the right palette and makeup to produce the effect you want.  

Scaring your friends this Halloween is as easy as finding the right makeup and products to create effects that will make them jump out of their skin or run away screaming. Ideas abound on how to choose and create the Halloween character that epitomizes who you are. All you have to do is pick a character and effect and find a way to bring it to life.
