Met Gala Style Review–Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour and actress Sarah Jessica Parker appeared on Late Night with Seth Meyers earlier this week to give the dish on this year’s Met Gala. Approaching men’s style at the event, Wintour did not hold back. She revealed that the white tie dress code inspired by the exhibition of Charles James had men freaked out. Wintour reveals, “The most amusing email I had was from Tom Ford who dressed many of the most handsome men there on Monday night. He said he had not only had hundreds of men coming in and asking him to explain white tie meant, they were very confused by decorations. There were a couple who said, ‘Did this mean Christmas tree decoration or ornaments and could Tom Ford please pick them out.” Reflecting on men’s looks for the evening, Wintour was specific in her thoughts and thought only one man got it right.
The only man who apparently got his look right was actor Benedict Cumberbatch, who was dressed by Tom Ford. Wintour confirms that he “nailed it” while Parker confirms that she told him, “You brought a little bit of class. He elevated the evening.”
Not caring for Jake Gyllenhaal’s loose interpretation of the evening’s theme, Wintour refers to his look as “Brooklyn white tie”.
One for details, Wintour notes that “Bradley Cooper was 99.55 right, but his studs should have been onyx and not mother of pearl.”
Referring to Tom Brady’s velvet look, Wintour adds that he “obviously did not look at the invitation but at least he had Gisele.”
Wintour had no kind words for Hugh Jackman. She explains, “My understanding is that this is called white tropical dinner jacket.”
