TAG Heuer

TAG Heuer traces its origins to the watchmaking workshop Edouard Heuer opened in Saint-Imier, Switzerland, in 1860. Precision timing became a defining concern, with the company’s 1887 oscillating-pinion patent helping improve the operation of chronographs. The relationship between a watch and a measurable sporting performance shaped much of what followed.

Motor racing gave that technical work a powerful visual identity. Introduced in 1963, the Carrera took its name from the Carrera Panamericana road race and emphasized legibility. The square-cased Monaco followed in 1969, becoming associated with Steve McQueen through the film Le Mans. Together, the watches established two different interpretations of a sporting timepiece.

The company adopted the TAG Heuer name after its acquisition by Techniques d’Avant Garde in 1985. It joined LVMH in 1999, continuing its development within the group’s watchmaking business. Its headquarters in La Chaux-de-Fonds connect that international identity with a Swiss manufacturing base.

The Connected watch extended its work into digital technology in 2015, while mechanical chronographs remained central to the collection. Eyewear added another expression of the brand’s sporting vocabulary. Within men’s style, TAG Heuer’s appeal rests on the connection between a recognizable design and the competitive settings that helped give it meaning.
