Controversy caught up with Rick Owens this season, but for a change, it wasn’t of his own doing. One model stole the show as Owens presented his spring-summer 2016 menswear collection. Jera took to the runway on his own accord with a banner that read “Please Kill Angela Merkel NOT”. Rick Owens released an official statement in response: “Rick Owens does not claim responsibility for the act of protest by a model at the Spring Summer 2016 show. This was an independent statement and does not reflect the opinion of the house of Rick Owens.” GQ reports that the model, who had been Owens’ muse for twelve years, was punched by the designer backstage. Funny enough, the whole event pretty much goes with Owens’ in your face aesthetic–anything can happen.
