Hamid Onifadé
Hamid Onifadé was studying Computer Engineering at Northeastern when, at twenty-one, he walked a friend to an open call at a New York agency and left with a contract. His career debut came on the Calvin Klein fall-winter 2015 runway, and his first major campaign followed shortly after with Gap, photographed by Mikael Jansson.
He cut his teeth on repeat bookings for H&M, Simons, and J.Crew, the kind of working-model rotation that builds a career underneath the editorial work. The runway and editorial credits compounded fast. Tom Ford. WSJ. Marc Jacobs. VMAN. He even covered Esquire’s Big Black Book and the Details September 2015 issue.
Ralph Lauren came in 2017 and never left. The relationship has run across both the Polo line and the main Ralph Lauren label, from the Earth Polo recycled-cotton campaign opposite Simon Nessman to the Polo Red fragrance face, through a roster of photographers that includes Lachlan Bailey, Alasdair McLellan, and David Sims.
The casting tells you what the house sees in him. Hamide has become a Ralph Lauren face in the lineage of Tyson Beckford, the kind of long-running model the house defines itself through. The Beninese French model from Cotonou has spent almost a decade wearing the cable knits, tweed, oxford cloth, and tortoise frames of Ralph’s East Coast world, and the house keeps casting him because the clothes look like they belong to him.
