shorts with thermals underneath is a mountain climbing / hiking tradition. i very commonly – depending on just how cold it might get while hiking – would wear shorts with thermals and roll up the thermals when it got warm. plain and simple – layering. that was my first thought when on seeing groups like chronicles of never and the like sending out shorts with thermals. i believe this is similar AND even closer to the origin of that layering tradition
