One of Broadway’s most buzzed about productions, American Psycho: The Musical has struck our sartorial fancy. The adaptation tackles author’s Bret East Ellis’ 1991 novel, which follows the story of Patrick Bateman. The musical’s costume designer Katrina Lindsay looks to a mix of vintage pieces and a curated selection from luxury retailer Mr Porter for the play. Talking to WWD in a recent interview, Lindsay discussed American Psycho: The Musical’s look, explaining, “Bateman and his social circle, at work and play, are obsessed with the surface value and status of everything around them. It is an obsession which highlights the void that enables Bateman to kill and enhances the dark humor within the piece.”
The costume designer continues, “To create a real sense of this and the period it felt important to be able to place within the costume world key pieces that are true to everything Bateman is focused on.”
