Leon Dame
Leon Dame is a German model from Berlin whose approach to fashion owes as much to character as to appearance. Scouted while waiting for a bus, he began working with Tomorrow Is Another Day and made his first professional runway appearance for Sacai in Paris in June 2015. He also pursued studies in art history, followed by theatre studies and politics at the Freie Universität Berlin, interests that offer context for a career built on more than standing still.
His collaboration with John Galliano at Maison Margiela brought that instinct for performance into focus. In September 2019, Dame closed the house’s spring-summer 2020 show with a fierce, swerving walk that became an international talking point. The performance grew out of character work at fittings and feedback from movement director Pat Boguslawski. Dame had already spent several seasons developing characters for Margiela, making the much-shared finale a culmination of that process.
The relationship continued into Maison Margiela’s spring-summer 2024 Artisanal presentation, where Dame appeared in the opening film and entered the show in a tightly laced corset. Across those years, his expressive movement helped make modeling part of the storytelling itself. His angular features and ability to shift between masculine and feminine codes gave Galliano an unusually receptive collaborator.
His campaign career extends from Bottega Veneta to Loro Piana and Berluti. Chris Rhodes photographed him for Bottega Veneta’s fall 2026 advertising, giving his expressive physicality another setting beyond the runway. Work for Isabel Marant draws on a more casual attitude. His editorial career includes a May 2020 cover of L’Uomo Vogue photographed by Alasdair McLellan and appearances in Vogue Japan and Fantastic Man. These photographs establish a career as persuasive in a close portrait as in motion.
Dame has also questioned the narrow ideals that fashion helps create. Speaking to Vogue Germany in 2021, he argued for broader representations of beauty and greater acceptance of different male bodies. He described beauty as a feeling shaped by personal connection and experience. That outlook gives his willingness to transform a purpose beyond spectacle, making room for different ways a man can look and move.
