João Knorr

João Knorr is a Brazilian model from Panambi whose path into fashion began in competitive sport. Tennis and volleyball shaped his early ambitions, and at sixteen he moved to Porto Alegre to pursue volleyball, living away from his family for the first time. Modeling eventually took him from those courts to an international runway debut opening for Versace.

An agent discovered João during a volleyball game in Brazil. His bleached hair, introduced after signing with Joy Models, became a signature of his early fashion photographs.

Versace gave that arrival a wider audience. João appeared in the house’s fall 2018 campaign, joining its large cast in photographs by Steven Meisel. Advertising for Tom Ford followed during the same formative period, while magazine work included GQ Portugal and L’Officiel Hommes.

His Calvin Klein Performance spring 2021 campaign brought his athletic background into the frame through images of exercise and cycling. In 2024, he starred alongside Alex Consani in Sisley’s “Hello Strangers” campaign, photographed around London.

Speaking to DAMAN in 2025, João connected the concentration learned through tennis and the teamwork of volleyball with the demands of modeling. He also described a cautious relationship with social media and its culture of comparison.

“I want people to know me in person, not just through a screen,” he said. The distinction reflects a career built through encounters, beginning with an agent at a volleyball game and developing through the working relationships behind his photographs.
