Kris Van Assche
Charlotte Stouvenot / Kris Van Assche
Kris Van Assche launched his namesake label in Paris in 2005, following work in the studios of Yves Saint Laurent and Dior Homme. The Belgian designer developed an approach to menswear that brought tailoring into contact with athletic clothing and workwear. A suit could be worn with sneakers, while formal fabrics could take the shape of something more relaxed.
Originally styled KRISVANASSCHE, the label became known for this movement between dress codes. High-top shoes and practical bags accompanied jackets and trousers whose proportions challenged the conventional business wardrobe. Collaborations with Lee and Eastpak extended the conversation into denim and accessories.
Van Assche closed the business in 2015 while leading Dior Homme. He later became artistic director of Berluti, then developed projects spanning ceramics and other design objects. Collaborations with Fred Perry and ANTA offered further settings for his interest in uniforms and the relationship between formal and casual clothing.
The namesake label returned in 2026 with a smaller, direct-to-consumer collection for men and women. Deadstock fabrics and a concentrated selection of pieces marked a change in how the business operated, while tailoring remained central to its design language. The revival connects two periods of independent work through a continuing interest in how familiar clothes can be recombined and worn differently.
