Jacques Marie Mage

Jacques Marie Mage was founded in Los Angeles in 2014 by Jérôme Jacques Marie Mage. The eyewear house approaches glasses as objects with a cultural history, drawing on figures from cinema and music as well as earlier design movements. Limited production and an emphasis on construction distinguish that approach from a seasonal accessories business.

Its first collection appeared in spring 2015 with four acetate frames made in Japan. Thick frame fronts and custom metal details became recognizable features, giving the glasses a sculptural quality. A titanium series followed in 2017, extending the design language into lighter metal constructions while retaining the emphasis on specialized manufacturing.

Collaborations connect those objects with particular lives and images. The Taos frame, developed with Hopper Goods, took inspiration from Dennis Hopper’s glasses in Easy Rider. Subsequent projects involved artists and performers such as Jeff Goldblum, using eyewear to explore a public persona as much as a period shape.

The house later expanded into Italian-made leather goods and jewelry, applying its interest in historical references to other personal objects. Eyewear remains its foundation. Designed in Los Angeles and produced through specialist workshops, the frames treat a daily necessity as a lasting expression of taste, with small construction details doing much of the identifying work.
