André van Noord was twenty-one when a Rolling Stones concert in the mid-1980s turned into an agency meeting in Paris. He signed with Bananas Models and stayed there for thirty-two years.

The early peak ran through Italian and French luxury. Paolo Roversi shot him for Cerruti. Albert Watson shot him for Trussardi. Jean-Baptiste Mondino shot him for Jitrois. He pulled a 20 Ans cover and L’Uomo Vogue editorials with Lorenzo Bringhelli across the same years.

Alasdair McLellan and Emmanuelle Alt later cast him for the age-themed Vogue Hommes International story in fall 2010. The face kept working past forty and past fifty, his hair gone gray and his skin creased, the magazines and houses still calling.

The endurance was the argument. Male careers cycle out around thirty, and van Noord was past forty and still shooting Mauro Grifoni, The Kooples with his wife Marisca for the rock-and-roll 2014 campaign, and Mango. Matthew Brookes and Mondino kept coming back.

By the early 2010s, his son Parker van Noord had started modeling. The first job was a Knack Weekend cover shoot Philippe Vogelenzang made with the two of them when Parker was fourteen. The pair walked Umit Benan together in Paris in 2015 and shot Gieves & Hawkes with Sharif Hamza shortly after.

Van Noord died in November 2018 at fifty-four after a brain tumor diagnosis. He had told WWD when Parker started, “The industry is hard on people. Only time will tell if he makes it. The only thing that a father can wish for is that his son will do better than himself.”

Parker has been working the same European campaigns and runways since.
