Young & Bold–There’s something refreshing about menswear. Long gone are the days when style was resigned to this or that. With the democratization of fashion, thanks in great part to the internet, there’s an international community. A tastemaker’s selection is easily a click away with great online retailers such as Mr Porter and SSENSE offering up fashion brands from around the globe, new and established. But what’s the big deal here anyway? There’s a certain excitement to be found in fashion nowadays. Beyond its glamorous image, designers are working at making menswear progressive but applicable to our daily lives. Praise Kris Van Assche. The Belgian designer leads the curve approaching fashion from a living standpoint. He aims to make clothes that are sophisticated, well tailored but apply to every aspect of life. With a young bright outlook, it’s easy to go from a suit with fun (note Gucci’s floral prints this season) to a windbreaker and great pair of shorts (Van Assche has you covered). Talking to designer Billy Reid, the subject of relaxed fashions came up. We live in an age where we require more from our clothes. It’s not enough to be elegant or casual. There’s a blending of aesthetics as labels such as Hermès prove that every moment of your life deserves to be chic. And why shouldn’t it? / Order the issue at magazine.thefashionisto.com.
