Heughan Discusses Modern Celebrity
In an interview with Sam Reed for InStyle, Sam Heughan explores the contemporary actor’s demands. “I think actors before social media were pretty elusive,” Heughan says. “I love to people watch. I don’t like standing out in the crowd… I love sitting in a cafe or a bar and just watching people.”Â

Unfortunately for Heughan, the audience expects more from their celebrities. Nonetheless, Heughan argues, “I think an actor should disappear behind the character. You shouldn’t be like, ‘Oh, there’s Sam Heughan on stage playing a character.'”
Heughan on Playing Jamie Fraser
Heughan has been playing Jamie Fraser in Outlander nearing ten years. Heughan, who portrayed a Jamie aged twenty-five years in recent seasons, explains: “I think he’s just, he’s still the same guy, obviously.” The 41-year-old actor adds, “It’s just that he’s more grounded — sturdier. Maybe he doesn’t operate as hot. It’s an internal feeling, as opposed to doing ‘old man’ acting.”
