Philip Huang
Philip Huang started modeling in 2005 while commuting from Drexel University to New York castings. He opened 3.1 Phillip Lim spring 2006 in his first major season, walked Valentino in Paris and Gucci in Milan that same year, and shot for L’Uomo Vogue and British GQ by 2007. The Gucci booking made him the first male model of Asian origin the house had cast.
By 2008, Philip was walking Jean Paul Gaultier, Dolce & Gabbana, and John Galliano on the European calendar, with campaigns for Tom Ford, BOSS, Kenzo, Donna Karan, and Shanghai Tang running alongside GQ editorial work across its American, British, Japanese, and Taiwanese editions.
His casting placed him on a fault line fashion was only starting to cross. Through the mid-2000s and into the 2010s, Asian male models at the top of European luxury were a small group, and Philip was the face designers looked for. Zegna has stayed in the rotation across Philip’s career, from fall 2011 through the spring-summer 2027 opener at Malibu Pier.
He now runs Philip Huang, the sustainable textile brand he co-founded with Chomwan Weeraworawit in 2016, working with indigo dyers in Sakon Nakhon and operating between Brooklyn and Bangkok. WWD named the label one of four designers to watch at Paris spring-summer 2021. The first male Asian model Gucci cast is now the designer his own clothes are named after.
