Ana Locking was founded in Madrid in 2008 by Spanish designer Ana González Rodríguez. The ready-to-wear label followed Locking Shocking, the earlier project she developed with Óscar Benito. Working under the Ana Locking name, González built collections around personal experience and contemporary culture, treating clothing as a way to give an idea physical form.

Menswear formed part of that approach, bringing expressive fabrics and printed imagery into tailoring and casual clothing. Suits could appear beside metallic separates or oversized outerwear, with proportion and texture altering the mood of familiar garments. The collections invited men to experiment with appearance, extending the designer’s interest in identity beyond conventional divisions of masculine and feminine dress.

Individual collections developed their own narratives. American Landscape for fall-winter 2014 drew on an American visual vocabulary, while Doppelgänger for fall-winter 2015 explored doubling and dual identities through contrasting materials. These themes gave the runway a purpose beyond displaying a seasonal wardrobe, connecting the clothes to questions about how people present themselves and how others see them.

The label’s last runway collection was fall-winter 2020. González’s wider practice has continued through custom projects, costume, and exhibitions, and she received Spain’s National Fashion Design Award in 2020. Her former menswear line remains part of that creative history, recording an approach to Spanish fashion in which narrative and an openness to different identities shaped the clothes.
