Ovadia & Sons

Ovadia & Sons was a New York menswear label founded in 2010 by twin brothers Ariel and Shimon Ovadia. Born in Jerusalem and raised in Brooklyn, the designers brought a shared interest in clothing and music to a collection initially rooted in tailoring. Their early work placed an emphasis on suits and the details of a traditional men’s wardrobe.

The brothers were selected for GQ‘s Best New Menswear Designers in America program in 2012. Its associated Gap capsule introduced their work to a wider audience. As the label developed, tailored clothing made room for sportswear and a more expansive view of New York style.

Personal history supplied much of the material. Their father’s experiences as a soccer player and soldier informed collections that mixed athletic references with military clothing. Graphic pieces and denim brought the music culture of their upbringing into the same wardrobe. A collaboration with Levi’s further developed their interest in vintage clothing.

The label’s later collections moved between patterned camp shirts and casual separates, reflecting a period when American menswear was renegotiating the relationship between tailoring and streetwear. The brothers put the label aside during the pandemic and launched a creative agency in 2021. Ovadia & Sons remains part of the history of the independent New York menswear scene of the 2010s.
