A.P.C.
Aliocha Boi / Barbour
A.P.C. was founded in Paris in 1987 by Jean Touitou. Short for Atelier de Production et de Creation, the name placed the work of making clothes ahead of the designer’s personality. The French label established itself through straightforward garments, restrained branding, and an attention to fabric that made simplicity a point of view.
Raw Japanese denim became one of its defining materials. A new pair of jeans begins with a firm texture and dark surface, then changes through wear, recording the habits of its owner. That relationship between a plain garment and an individual wearer helps explain the appeal of the wider collection, where a shirt or coat can become personal through repeated use.
A.P.C.’s menswear builds on recognizable wardrobe pieces, giving weight to cut and proportion. Knitwear and outerwear sit alongside denim, with leather accessories extending the same direct approach. The clothes offer a Parisian perspective that depends less on conspicuous decoration than on how an outfit comes together.
Judith Touitou helped shape the label as artistic director until 2024. Ludivine Poiblanc was appointed artistic director in 2026, opening a new chapter for the Paris-based house. Across those changes, A.P.C.’s lasting contribution is its insistence that an ordinary garment can deserve close attention, from the feel of its cloth to the way it ages.
