A clear silhouette and a useful wardrobe are the starting points at Filippa K. Founded in Sweden in 1993 by Filippa Knutsson, Karin Hellners, and Patrik Kihlborg, the label helped give Scandinavian minimalism an international audience. Its clothes balance polish with comfort, making room for a tailored coat, an uncomplicated knit, and trousers that work across a day’s different demands.
The business began with Knutsson’s idea of reducing the effort involved in getting dressed. Rather than treating each season as a complete change of direction, Filippa K builds around recognizable wardrobe staples. The approach puts particular weight on fit and on how individual pieces combine, with tailoring and casualwear sharing the same restrained language.
Menswear applies that thinking to soft suits, shirts, knitwear, and practical outerwear. In recent collections, a wider trouser or a generously cut coat has given the silhouette more room without losing its discipline. Neutral colors create a foundation, while texture supplies much of the interest. The appeal is especially clear in clothes that can move from a commute to an evening out with only small adjustments.
Headquartered in Stockholm, Filippa K has passed through several creative chapters. Liisa Kessler became creative director in 2022, bringing a renewed emphasis on the label’s 1990s origins. Anna Teurnell joined as creative lead in early 2024. Her brief returns to the needs of an everyday wardrobe, preserving simplicity while paying close attention to the individual garment. Beyond clothing, a collaboration with Swedish ceramics company Rörstrand began in 2003, extending the label’s design sensibility into the home.
