J. Press Fall 2025 Revives Ivy Cool With Ties & Tweeds

The Fashionisto / Published September 18, 2025

Jack Carlson’s debut at J. Press set out to return Ivy League it to its source. In a fashion field crowded with diluted versions of “preppy,” he reasserted the brand as the outfitter that wrote the code. The show underlined Ivy as a language with roots deep enough to carry into 2025.

The key elements were clear: striped ties, corduroy trousers, repp socks, tweeds, and the revival of the chest-pocket blazer. Carlson injected wit into the mix, from embroidered cords scattered with tiny motifs and skull knits worn under Harris tweed to baseball caps pulled low over ties.

Outerwear kept the footing firm, featuring duffels with toggles, balmacaan coats, and jackets with a Tyrolean tilt. Tailoring stayed sharp in grey flannel and chalk-stripe wool, proof that J. Press still makes Ivy on its own terms.

Carlson’s collection argued that Ivy’s quirks are its strength. By leaning into them rather than sanding them down, he positioned J. Press as the standard bearer once again, showing that the style’s original form has plenty left to say.
