A jacket that stops at the waist and a coat that falls past the knee offer two different ways to get winter proportions right. Mango explores both in its latest outerwear edit, with Max Knott transitioning between compact zip jackets and long wool-blend coats.

A brown jacket with a contrasting collar meets pleated trousers, leaving the fuller leg to balance its short cut. The overcoats draw a longer line, opening over light knitwear or framing a cardigan buttoned beneath the lapels. The layers suggest clothes already in the wardrobe, given a different bearing by what goes over them.

Dark trousers keep the heavier shapes in proportion, and the restrained colors make switching between them easy. Mango gives the coat the deciding vote, whether the day calls for a straight silhouette or a little more insulation.
