Jeremy Scott
Jeremy Scott is an American fashion designer whose clothes draw on the images people encounter long before they encounter a runway. Cartoons and commercial packaging become material for luxury fashion, with humor shaping the garment as much as its surface. His namesake label and decade at Moschino made that approach visible across both menswear and womenswear.
Raised in Missouri, Scott studied fashion at Pratt Institute in New York before moving to Paris. He presented his first namesake collection there in 1997, developing a reputation for resourceful shows and an appetite for provocation. Musicians became early supporters, helping his clothes travel beyond the traditional fashion audience. His later move to Los Angeles placed him closer to an entertainment culture already woven into his work.
Scott became creative director of Moschino in October 2013. His debut collection in 2014 used fast-food imagery to address luxury’s appetite for instantly recognizable symbols. The approach continued the house’s tradition of treating fashion as a subject for jokes, while giving those jokes a new life in the age of social media. He stepped down in March 2023 after almost ten years.
His collaborations with Adidas gave the same sensibility a different scale, most memorably through winged sneakers that turned an athletic product into an object of fantasy. Pratt’s 2025 account of his career also places his work across exhibitions and other visual media. Scott’s importance lies in how easily those worlds meet in his clothes. A piece can function as a costume for a performer, a collectible image and something a customer wears for the pleasure of being noticed.
