Fashion Trends for Men Spring/Summer 2014 –Bringing Europe's prominent menswear shows for the spring/summer 2014 season to a close, Paris Fashion Week brought out their creative strengths with several fashion trends for men. Overall, designers pushed the limit this season, from the fit to the print, with menswear undergoing a total makeover. Redefining the horizons for men's fashion, the Paris shows revealed many innovative trends that spoke to the polished gentleman, the rebel, and the fashion enthusiast. Streamlined –Kicking off the Paris Week trends is the elongated overcoat. Sleek lines and clean silhouettes dominated the runway, like the chic look above from Cerruti 1881 . The lengthening of the coat brings about a more refined finish, and can easily be thrown over the suit on a cold morning, or after dinner as the night cools down. Dior Homme's interpretation of the elongated silhouette in a deep burgundy shade. The deconstructed fabric allows for a more casual, effortless feel without compromising style. The streamlined trenchcoat returns in the Dries van Noten show, with a bold navy, retro-inspired piece. It wouldn't be Dries without an exquisite print, which is tastefully done upon the belt. The classic trench becomes a statement piece for this spring/summer season. Ultra chic with a bad boy edge, Hedi Slimane redefines cool with a sleek, black overcoat for Saint Laurent . A simple overcoat with a modern cut is a fool-proof way to elevate any man's wardrobe. Wooyoungmi keeps it classic and sophisticated with a lengthened two button overcoat. The elongated silhouette becomes the essential in defining a more luxe, mature style. Less Is More –Another fast-growing trend among the shows is the luxe tee. Minimalist and subdued, the luxe tee replaces the button up shirt for a more effortless and chic look. Hermes is the master of this trend, presenting several options this season from a more simple white tee to more exquisite pieces of various materials. The second look from Hermes , the luxe tee also reveals the importance of fit in menswear. Clean lines and a proportional fit make up the components of this chic silhouette In addition, the bold, rich navy is the perfect complement for the perfect spring/summer outfit. Finally, Hermes plays with a myriad of materials for alternative options of the luxe tee. What's successful about this look is that while the fabric may be innovative, the fit and silhouette are still very accessible. Valentino dips into this trend as well, presenting a more structured alternative to the luxe tee. No less chic than the ones before, this polished tee elevates the man's wardrobe with a more refined fit of the men's staple. Last but not least, Lanvin reinterprets the luxe tee, designing a more fluid and deconstructed version while still maintaining the integrity and aesthetic by utilizing rich fabrics and an innovative cut. Bold & Brave –Perhaps one of the greatest trends of this season, as well as one of the more daring ones from the men's shows, is pattern blocking. Louis Vuitton takes on the trend in a more subdued manner, with pastel shades and subtle prints for a look that is both casual and fun. Master of the graphics, Riccardo Tisci at Givenchy looks to vibrant colors and prints for his interpretation of pattern blocking. As one can see, pattern blocking can be done in a multitude of ways, whether it be the short and the shirt in contrasting prints, or as seen with this Kenzo look, the outerwear speaking to the top within. This combo of prints breathes urban street, with the text print top underneath a bold contrasted pattern. Further, Kenzo paints the prints in monochromatic shades, making this trend more understandable and wearable. Chopped –The suiting pant gets the cut this season as shorts become a common partner to the suit. Starting with this sleek Dior Homme look, shorts in a rich, luxe material are shown to be the perfect alternative. Another look from Dior Homme , the short shorts provide an innovative look into menswear, pushing the envelope on classic silhouettes. Jumping on the trend, Lanvin also incorporates the short length with suiting. Raf Simons presents his perspective on the short shorts, creating a more street-friendly, casual option with this bold, graphic look. Contrasting the high-waisted short with an oversized, structured sweatshirt, Juun.J taps into the trend with this innovative and sports-inspired look. Melting Pot –Not only are designers playing with patterns and graphic prints, but they also began dipping into mixed media and textures for men. As seen here with 3.1 Phillip Lim , classic pieces such as the moto jacket undergo a drastic makeover with the combination of various materials. Lanvin plays it cool with a mixed-media bomber jacket, blocking mesh fabrics with latex for a refreshing take on outerwear. A second look from Lanvin , menswear begins to take on a whole new meaning in casual sportswear with this bold tank top that infuses a myriad of materials. Similar to that of the 3.1 Phillip Lim moto jacket, John Galliano responds to the trend with a sleek black coat with contrasting sleeves. Deconstructed and minimalist with architectural finishes, Rick Owens infuses his signature aesthetic into the mixed-media trend. Sticking to the monochromatic color palette, the designer contrasts the fluidity of the black top with a block of sheer fabric.
