Lars Burmeister

Lars Burmeister is a German model from Hamburg whose career became closely associated with Hugo Boss and Giorgio Armani’s Acqua di Giò. The two relationships established him as a recognizable face of men’s advertising in the 2000s, with fragrance work giving his image an audience beyond the fashion pages.

Before modeling, Lars worked part-time in a motor workshop and contemplated commercial training. Fashion offered a different route, taking him into the international show circuit and a long association with Hugo Boss. His fall 2005 campaign for the German house belongs to the early years of that relationship.

Acqua di Giò became a defining assignment. Photographed by Peter Lindbergh, Lars succeeded Larry Scott as the fragrance’s face, joining the advertising history of a scent that had helped establish a particular ideal of athletic male beauty. His work for the fragrance made the connection between model and product especially strong, extending the visibility he had gained through clothing campaigns.

International work also clarified his attachment to home. Returning to Hamburg after living in New York, he told Bild in 2017, “I missed the greenery too much in New York.” He added, “I’m fairly down-to-earth and like having my friends around me,” translated from German. He had grown up by the Elbe in Bullenhausen, and the pull of quieter surroundings remained strong.

Modeling continued alongside his life in Hamburg, including Brunello Cucinelli’s spring-summer 2021 tailoring imagery. Fitness developed into a separate profession through the Burmeister Personal Fitness Club, which he founded in Hamburg-Winterhude. As its head coach, he draws on his experience working with trainers in New York and subsequent professional training, turning a discipline of his modeling life into work with clients of his own.
