THE INDUSTRY DAVID GANDY 039Pin

Gandy on Menswear–Last week, British model David Gandy sat down for a discussion at the Condé Nast College of Fashion & Design organized by The Industry. Speaking with journalist Hilary Alexander, Gandy talked about his modeling career, while also sharing his view on menswear and its future. Referring to his modeling career, Gandy explained, “I didn’t aspire to be in the fashion industry…I hate having my picture taken.” The leading model, who was scouted explains that “One of the best things about my job is the other opportunities it has allowed me to do too, like pursuing my love of cars.”

Gandy believes that the fashion industry should pay attention to other industries, whether it is sports and football or the automobile industry. Gandy explains, “I like to bring a tangible element into fashion. The person who buys male fashion is the man on the street, so why alienate him? When I turned up to London Collections: Men, I turned up in a classic car. It’s a very simple thing – men like cars. Fashion needs to prove to men that it’s not scary.” When asked about his future, Gandy shared, “I’d love to be behind the camera, or the creative director of a clothing line.”
