Stella McCartney

Stella McCartney launched her namesake fashion house in 2001, establishing a British label in which tailoring and animal-conscious material choices developed together. Following her work at Chloé, the designer presented the house’s first collection in Paris that October. Her commitment to excluding leather and fur became a defining part of the business.

The men’s collection was unveiled in 2016 for spring-summer 2017. It extended a longstanding interest in masculine tailoring into a wardrobe made specifically for men, with relaxed suits and casual pieces sharing the same attitude. Knitwear and shirts allowed the collection to move beyond formal dress, often introducing a playful graphic element.

Material research forms another thread through the house’s work. The decision to avoid animal leather prompted an exploration of alternatives, while recycled and regenerated materials became part of its wider approach. These choices affect the garments themselves, connecting the appearance of a product with the way it is made.

An ongoing partnership with Adidas, launched in 2004, extended that thinking into performance clothing. The house’s menswear history belongs to a broader design practice in which ease of movement and an informal interpretation of tailoring matter alongside the search for different materials.
