Luca Larenza
Mary Ianniciello / Luca Larenza
Luca Larenza launched his namesake menswear label in Milan in 2011, following earlier experiments with clothing and graphic design. Born in Caserta, the designer worked as a buyer and studied fashion management before developing his own collections. His years painting graffiti across Europe gave him an approach to color that became central to the brand.
Knitwear and outerwear form the core of the wardrobe. Larenza works with Italian yarns and fabrics, using contrasts of texture and hue to alter recognizable men’s garments. The connection to street art appears less as a borrowed graphic style than as an instinct for how colors behave together across a surface.
Tailoring and casual clothing meet within that approach. Relaxed shapes allow the material and color relationships to become the focus, while a Mediterranean sensibility gives the clothes a connection to place. The resulting wardrobe makes room for expressive knitwear alongside the practical pieces that surround it.
The label was a finalist in the 2011 edition of Who’s on Next? Uomo, an early platform for its menswear. Larenza’s later work has continued to connect design with art and collaboration, including illustrated knitwear developed with Rob Wilson. His label’s identity rests on that conversation between Italian making and a personal, painterly use of color.
