Alpha Dia
Alpha Dia is a Senegalese model who grew up in Dakar before moving to Hamburg at eleven. His career began while he was working in a bar in the German city, where photographer Christian Bendel spotted him. Representation with Modelwerk followed, and a Prada runway debut introduced him to international fashion.
Advertising soon became an important part of his work. He appeared in Versace’s fall-winter 2017 campaign, photographed by Bruce Weber, and joined Henry Kitcher for Givenchy’s spring-summer 2019 campaign with Steven Meisel. A Boss campaign photographed by Craig McDean followed in the same season, establishing him among the recognizable faces of European menswear advertising.
His editorial work developed a more personal connection to his background. For Achtung‘s September 2019 issue, Alpha returned to Dakar with photographer Markus Pritzi for a cover story exploring the meaning of home. Magazine assignments also included GQ Portugal and Another Man, adding to a portfolio shaped by both runway appearances and fashion photography.
The relationship between Senegal and Germany extends beyond his professional life. Through the Alpha Dia Foundation, he has supported children in Senegal, developing work that began with football games and school equipment. In a 2020 essay for British GQ, he connected that work to lessons learned in fashion, writing, “You can start by instilling people with confidence.” He described the foundation as a way to give children space to develop their own ambitions, while reflecting on the self-belief he had needed to confront racism in his own life.
As his career developed, Alpha became a recurring face for Kiton’s KNT line and appeared in Todd Snyder’s collaboration with Private White V.C.. His professional path has made Hamburg a base for an international working life, with Senegal remaining central to the work he undertakes beyond modeling.
