Arran Sly

A British model with an established career in international menswear and underwear advertising, plus a physics degree that challenges the usual assumptions.

Arran Sly is a British model with a degree in physics whose early career included campaigns for Calvin Klein and Emporio Armani. Scouted in London by Cesar Perin of Unsigned, he had planned to enter finance after university before fashion offered another direction.

Calvin Klein gave him an early advertising milestone with its spring-summer 2012 underwear campaign. Work for Armani Exchange followed that year, and Emporio Armani cast him in its spring-summer 2013 advertising and watch campaign. Dsquared2 added another significant booking in fall-winter 2014, alongside runway work for Givenchy and Versace.

His academic background also challenged assumptions about his profession. Speaking to Glamour in 2016, Arran noted that people sometimes expected him to be self-absorbed or unintelligent, making his physics degree a useful surprise. His technical interests extended into jewelry. In 2018, he described using software to design and render pieces that could be manufactured through 3D printing.

He explored the other side of the camera during the 2020 lockdown, creating a self-shot story for The Rakish Gent. With borrowed equipment, a tripod and a remote shutter, he turned his London apartment into a temporary studio. He described the project as a creative outlet that taught him more about lighting and composition. Magazine work subsequently included a fall-winter 2023 cover of Diaries99.
