Alexander Beck
Alexander Beck is a British model whose long, fine-featured face and lean frame became associated with the exacting silhouettes of European menswear. His career began with a Prada exclusive and developed across luxury advertising and magazine work, with an off-camera sense of humor that complicates the severity of his photographs.
Scouted by Cesar Perin in a Cambridge bookshop in 2010, Alexander was living in Thaxted, Essex, studying for his AS levels and working in a fish-and-chip shop. He made his international runway debut as a Prada exclusive for fall 2011, then traveled to Paris for shows including Dior Homme and Louis Vuitton.
Yves Saint Laurent cast him to open and close its show. Advertising followed quickly, including the house’s fall 2011 campaign and Ports 1961’s spring 2012 campaign, both photographed by Inez & Vinoodh.
In a 2013 interview with AnOther, Alexander admitted that he had entered modeling with little interest in fashion. His approach to dressing remained instinctive, guided by what he liked instead of trends. By then, he was several seasons into the show circuit and had opened Salvatore Ferragamo’s spring 2014 presentation. Behind the formal runway image was someone who missed driving, his dog, and even Britain’s bad weather while traveling.
His sense of humor came through in The Fashionisto’s 2015 interview with Unsigned’s models. Asked what he told people he did for a living, he offered “gold fish farmer.” He credited his mother agency with his career and named the Uniqlo campaign for its New York flagship opening as his greatest professional high to that point, a personal milestone alongside his luxury bookings.
Alexander also helped another model enter the profession, scouting Max Rendell and bringing him to Unsigned. His own portfolio continued beyond the early runway years, including Mr Porter’s summer 2022 tailoring story. In that convivial setting, his affinity with a suit took on an easier character, extending a career that began with the more controlled theater of the catwalk.
