Charlie France
Charlie France is a British model from Stourbridge whose blue eyes and fine-featured face became closely associated with Burberry’s romantic vision of menswear. His early photographs have a youthful, almost otherworldly quality, offset by a direct gaze. As his career developed, that delicacy gave way to a more assured image, with tailoring becoming a recurring strength.
Charlie entered the international show circuit in January 2009 with a Jil Sander exclusive. By June, he was opening Burberry’s spring 2010 menswear show and holding another exclusive for Hugo by Hugo Boss. His appearance in Burberry’s fall 2009 campaign brought him into the brand’s advertising at the beginning of his career, establishing a relationship that continued across subsequent seasons. Within a year of his debut, his runway schedule included Prada and Hermès.
Editorial work gave Charlie room to move beyond that first association. Appearances in Numéro Homme and 10 Men placed him within a generation of British faces who could suggest suburban restlessness as readily as designer luxury. His later fall-winter 2014 Louis Vuitton campaign marked a shift in register, presenting him as a solitary traveler in Iceland. The house subsequently cast him in imagery for its permanent tailoring collection.
British tailoring remained a strong thread. Charlie fronted Gieves & Hawkes’ spring 2016 advertising and appeared in Hackett London’s fall 2019 campaign, where companionship and humor softened the formality of the clothes. Between those bookings, he modeled Charlie Casely-Hayford’s eveningwear collaboration with Topman. The progression from Burberry’s young romantic to these more worldly characters gives his portfolio a sense of someone aging into the clothes.
