Simon Miller

Simon Miller began in Los Angeles in 2008 as a men’s denim label founded by its namesake, Simon Miller. Its early identity centered on jeans, with fit and the character of the fabric providing the starting point for a small collection. The label belonged to a period when American denim specialists were expanding the possibilities of everyday menswear.

Jake Sargent and Daniel Corrigan took over creative direction in 2011 after Miller’s departure. They developed the business beyond jeans, adding knitwear and shirts to form a fuller wardrobe. The approach kept the informality of denim at its center, treating other garments as companions to clothes intended for regular use.

Chelsea Hansford subsequently joined the creative team as the brand expanded into womenswear and accessories. Its men’s collections continued to explore relaxed proportions and workwear references. Denim jackets worn with turtlenecks, roomy trousers, and casual outerwear gave the label a recognizable place within the American collections of the mid-2010s.

The menswear line was later discontinued as Simon Miller shifted its focus toward womenswear and a broader accessories business under Hansford. The continuing company and its former men’s collection represent different chapters of the same label. Its menswear archive records a particular interpretation of Los Angeles dressing, where the construction of jeans supplied the foundation for an entire wardrobe.
