Derek Rose

Derek Rose traces its family history to Jack Lewis Rose, who entered the design and manufacture of men’s clothing in 1926. His son Derek Rose joined the business in 1953, beginning the second generation’s involvement in a company that would become closely associated with British nightwear. Pajamas and dressing gowns gave the label its foundation, with fabric and fit central to clothes worn at home.

After the original family business was sold, Derek acquired the company that became Derek Rose Ltd. Manufacturing has been based in Congleton, Cheshire, since 1975. International wholesale growth brought its nightwear to department stores and independent retailers, earning the Queen’s Award for Export Achievement in 1987.

Derek and his daughter Nancy Rose-Pagani ran the business before his son Sacha Rose joined in 2003. The following years broadened the collection beyond sleepwear into loungewear and resort clothing. Soft jersey separates sit alongside printed silk pajamas, while linen shirts and swim shorts extend the wardrobe into travel.

The London-based brand remains family owned. Its first standalone store opened in Notting Hill in 2016, adding a direct retail setting to its wholesale business. Across these changes, Derek Rose has kept free time at the center of its identity, treating clothes for rest and leisure as a wardrobe deserving the same attention as clothes for work.
