Louis Tomlinson finds himself in a reflective mood for Flaunt’s latest cover story. Photographed by Dean Isidro (Atelier Management) and styled by Chris B. Kim (A-Frame Agency), the feature arrives alongside Tomlinson’s third solo album, How Did I Get Here?, a record shaped by a creative retreat in Costa Rica and a renewed trust in his own instincts.
Louis Tomlinson for Flaunt

Looking back on that period, Tomlinson says, “I wanted to create my own little world around the album.” He used the time away from industry pressures to reconnect with music he wanted to make. The accompanying images trade pop-star polish for something more personal, placing him in sunlit suburban settings where relaxed tailoring, vintage-inspired sportswear, and worn-in denim mirror the album’s search for clarity.

The story itself centers on Tomlinson’s evolution from One Direction member to confident solo artist. He speaks candidly about grief, self-doubt, and the challenge of building a career on his own terms after one of pop music’s biggest success stories. That honesty extends into the fashion story, where loose suiting, athletic knits, and casual staples suggest a man more comfortable with risk than he once was.

Reflecting on the creative breakthrough behind the record, Tomlinson admits, “I think I’d been putting myself in a box,” before embracing a broader musical palette. By the feature’s close, the question posed by the album title feels answered. As he puts it, “I’m looking in the mirror and celebrating the fact that I’m here.”
