Milan Fashion Week Spring 2012: Day 1

A Game of Dark & Light–The first round of shows have come and gone with spring looking rather dark. While Costume National Homme had a little sparkle with fantastic creepers, Jil Sander went the way of the cold reptile. Meanwhile Corneliani had a monochromatic love affair fit for the desert. Turning back the clock of time, Burberry Prorsum infused the season with color and prints, but always a rocker classic, John Varvatos offered a serene execution of layers. Going out to sea or better yet navigating the future, Dolce & Gabbana weaved a masterful net, while Ermenegildo Zegna kept the season sleek and reserved. Finally, Neil Barrett answered the call of the rebel with a wonderful exercise in suiting, featuring a provocative cut and Roberto Cavalli served a grand helping of luxury in standout spring hues.
