Photographed by Doug Inglish, British actor Henry Cavill dons a casual t-shirt and distressed denim jeans for the April 2016 cover of Men’s Fitness UK. While Cavil may demonstrate the utmost confidence as Superman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, that wasn’t always the case personally. Reflecting on his childhood, where he grew up as the middle child, Cavill confesses, “I wanted to do right by everyone and follow the rules. Pretty boring, actually! This is probably why I was so unpopular at school, because I was clearly such a wanker.”

The 32 year-old actor also recalls being overweight when he was younger. Cavill explains, “They used to call me Fat Cavill. I was a prime target for them. I actually had rolls of fat on me. One guy told me I had tits. I was a big eater, and I still love food.” Cavill continues, “I’m still an indulger, in alcohol, in food, in all the things I enjoy in life. I’ve never been able to do things in half measures. That’s probably why I was a fat kid. And yet as much as people made fun of me, there was no actual bullying. I was just miserable and homesick. At boarding school, you get to be your own person, and you grow by yourself. But I will admit, I was quite bitter for a while.”

Promoting Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck cover the most recent issue of Entertainment Weekly. Discussing his take on Superman, Cavill shares, “Superman’s weakness is that he doesn’t want to hurt anyone. He doesn’t want to scare anyone, and in that you can take advantage of him. This is someone who is a complete amateur, and he’s facing up against someone who is very well versed in the arts of war.” Meanwhile, Affleck describes the relationship between Batman and Superman, explaining, “He’s projecting his own sense of failure, his own sense of disillusionment, his own cynicism onto Superman.”
