for his fourth show in paris francisco van benthum took inspiration from russian and slavic folklore : historical images of imperial russia, tsars and slavic traditional clothes are translated into a poetic and contemporary fall 2010 collection entitled “tsar” …
experimenting with shapes and construction, the designer emphasizes volume and proportion, offering oversized round silhouettes and high waists, mostly in brown, cream, black, brown and grey with highlights of red, orange and gold, all in luxurious fabrics (cashmere loden wools, flannels, fine cotton poplins, silks, waxed cotton, soft lurex shirtings and silk/cashmere for light knits) … traditional handcrafts such as patchwork and embroidery add to a folkloristic atmosphere …
