People are so busy nowadays that we rush off in a blur of deadlines and long commutes. However, having a morning routine would mean taking our time to become productive not just for the sake of our work, but also for our overall well-being.
As the breadwinner, it is imperative that we men have such a great morning routine to keep us strong, healthy, and mentally and physically prepared to take on whatever challenges we encounter for the rest of the day.
In this article, I’ll be showing you a simple guide to start your day right and leave you feeling accomplished and motivated in life.
Get a good night’s sleep
It’s ironic to think that a great morning would start at night, but that’s the truth. The only way you can ever stick to a powerful morning routine that could catapult you to success is by making sure that you get enough rest. Studies show that lack of sleep contributes not just to physical issues like a higher risk of cardiovascular disease but it can also affect your stress levels and your mental and emotional disposition.
In short, not getting enough sleep will severely impact your daily performance and can definitely shorten your lifespan. So set your priorities straight and don’t ever skip out on getting 7-8 hours of sleep each day.
Meditate or pray
You can acknowledge that not everyone is religious in nature and still perform a few breathing exercises to meditate and give you mental clarity for at least a few minutes. Afford yourself some time to clear your headspace before starting your day. Visualize what challenges lay ahead and how you’re going to overcome them bit by bit. During this time, you can also think about ways you can improve yourself as a husband, as a son, as an employee or entrepreneur, or just as a human being.
Get hydrated
Water should be your first fuel for the day. Drinking warm water before you start to do more physically exhausting tasks will ensure that you don’t get dehydrated and will signal your brain to start your engines and prepare for what lies ahead. Remember that our bodies tend to naturally be dehydrated in the morning because we’ve deprived it of water for at least 7 hours at night so a glass of water would do anyone good.
Practice good oral hygiene
Morning breath is disgusting and needs to be addressed as early as possible. Everyone has it but not everyone deals with it. So don’t be that other guy who won’t brush his teeth in the morning. Do us all a favor. Please.
Pump some iron or go for a walk
It’s always a good idea to get a bit of a workout done before doing actual work. It can be anything from doing pull-ups on your doorway, weightlifting, or jogging to get some sun on your face. It will give you another great boost and, of course, will keep you fit. You seriously don’t need to do a whole workout… that in itself can be done later in the day, but a bit of stretching definitely won’t hurt.
Hit the shower and do a simple skincare routine
Of course, every gentleman takes care of his body in more ways than one. This includes getting a nice shower and doing a simple skincare routine. This might include beard maintenance for some, so go right ahead. Skincare doesn’t have to be complicated. And it’s absolutely not just for women. Men age, too. And if you don’t think you’ll be a “silver fox” in a couple of years, then you should do something about it right now.
Make your perfect cup… of something
It doesn’t have to be coffee. Clearly, it doesn’t even have to be something with caffeine! But make a cup of something that will make you feel ready and satisfied to get to work. This can be anything from a protein shake that will help in getting your daily protein requirement on track or a bottle of amazing veggie and fruit juices that will seriously make you feel healthier and stronger.
Eat breakfast
No morning routine is complete without a healthy breakfast. No, your cup of joe doesn’t count. It needs to include a healthy serving of protein, fats, and carbs to be of any use to a busy guy like you. You can prepare it yourself with a few simple ingredients. Or you can also opt to make breakfast at night for some quick and easy overnight oats.
Wrapping Up
Mornings are certainly not for everyone. Some people do work at night so therefore, these tips could also work for the night owl, too. But I admit, this routine certainly isn’t for everybody. There may be some things you can omit and can add here and there. However, one thing remains: having a morning routine is definitely a great way to start your day.
