You can tell a lot about a man from what he wears on his feet. What do your shoes say about you?
As men, we are not encouraged towards fashion in the same way that women are. We are taught from an early age that worrying about our appearance is somehow effeminate. Thank goodness the world is changing. Personally, some of us are sick to the stomach of chunky work boots and steel toe caps.
You can tell a lot about a man by what he chooses to wear on his feet. Even when forced to comply with an office dress code, there are plenty of variations within a shoe that allow you to put a little personality into your stride.
Let’s take a closer look at what your footwear means when you step into a room.
What does your Footwear say about you?
There are a few different ways in which what you wear on your feet represents you as a person.
1 – Shoes tell people about your work
First off, we have the hints shoes give about what you do for a living. A personal trainer is always in running shoes. A builder always wears heavy steel-capped boots, and an office worker always has flat blacks or browns on.
Of course, this only works between 8 am and 6 pm, Monday through Friday. Catch someone outside of those hours, and footwear has other secrets to reveal.
2 – They show what you Value Most
This is where things get interesting. A shoe shows the world whether you value appearance or comfort. This is the same for a woman in stilettos for a man in a dress shoe. Pop on a pair of Oxfords and you immediately appear mature, stylish, and well-off. They’re not made to be comfortable though, are they?
If you choose to wear these in your free time, you are someone who values appearances more than their own comfort. There’s nothing wrong with that, but people will make those assumptions about you, based on your footwear alone.
3 – Footwear Betrays your Sense of Style
There are a hundred other ways that shoes impact other’s perceptions of you, but these are the three top mentioned ones and last on the list is how footwear tells others how stylish you are.
Those who wear a casual croc are considered to be style-challenged, while those in the newest sneaker are considered to be either top-class athletes, or potential models. Dress shoes say that you like the finer things in life, while a slip on training shoe portrays you as stylish without trying too hard.
Footwear will instantly tell others, at-a-glance, how stylish you are. Don’t panic though. There are plenty of ways to improve on your shoes.
