John Galliano brings an avant-garde flair to menswear with his spring-summer 2019 collection for Maison Margiela. The designer broaches the craft of dressmaking in a masculine arena. Galliano’s explorations result in Maison Margiela’s first full Artisanal menswear collection. The show signifies an unrestricted foray onto the territory of Haute Couture for men in a conversation with a new masculinity in motion.
A fearless lineup includes sharply tailored jackets, pastel cigarette pants, corsets, and kimono-inspired outerwear. Bringing nontraditional elements such as sheer details into menswear, Galliano forces a discussion on masculinity. Forced to confront the collection and dissect each look, Galliano’s designs easily become more personal.
