Christopher Kane looks to city streets, crashed cars and crushed steel for the inspiration of his fall-winter 2016 men’s collection. The designer shares, “It’s the shine of high-vis neon and reflective fabrics in city lights; a modern wardrobe of new, casual luxury without formalwear.” Kane continues, “I wanted something strong and tough–the inspiration originally came from the ‘car crash’ sculptures of John Chamberlain–but made sophisticated and wearable. I think it’s a collection that really reflects the world around me; it’s literally about the street.”

References to the street result in a mix of sportswear and workwear-inspired fits. Here, oversized baggy silhouettes borrow from the signature shapes of Japanese designers. Relaxed denim jeans and loose, straight-cut trousers are paired with sweatshirts and jacquard knits. Meanwhile, car culture dominates the collection’s graphic prints. A ‘car crash’ motif is accented by extra-long belts that double as seatbelts.
