We all know that fashion has no borders, but due to our differences as human beings, we tend to like different things. Although it’s important to note that fashion usually works to emphasize the personality of an individual, it could sometimes work to emphasize a culture.

In this article, we would like to tackle the style trends on all of the 7 continents that we know and love. There may be some mistakes due to the sheer number of cultures we have to boil down to just one specific taste, but we will still try our best.

Let’s start with North America, a continent where a lot of fashion designers reside today, and the sub-capital of modern fashion trends mostly from the United States.

North America

This continent is a little bit hard to handle simply due to the differing cultures. If it were just the US and Canada, it would have been much easier, but due to the extremely differing climate, we have to focus more on the northern part of this continent to better understand the trends.

It’s safe to say that casual wear is king on this continent. Almost every single person you see in the streets is wearing sneakers, a hoodie, sweatpants or shorts. But the moment we go even further north, we find a completely different approach.

It’s obvious that the currently most popular style in North America is casual wear or sportslook as we like to call it, but that’s mostly derived from the USA.

For Canadians, the most fashion-inspired clothes you can find are the trench-coats mostly worn in cities like Quebec and Toronto. The cool breeze of almost every season can be felt in this country, which forces the locals to go for bulky, but still presentable attire.

It’s even believed that the furry hoods that Canadians are mostly seen with throughout Autumn and Winter were derived from the native peoples as they were also relying on the warmth of their local animals’ fur. Don’t forget the beaver trade in the 18th century as well. Canadians adopted the furry hood style after local tribes were given rights to running casinos, a place almost every Canadian likes to go to.

However, after the popularisation of Canada live casinos, the country shifted its fashion attention to trench coats and cotton coats.

South America

South America is a lot more vibrant due to its slightly warmer climate. The people there also derive most of their fashion inspiration from the deep history rooted in the region.

The natives of modern Latin American countries used to perceive color as something that brightens the soul, which has translated into a modern designer’s perspective of clothes as well.

The most common colors to see in Latin American fashion is light blue, red and yellow. This could be associated with colors used by the ancestors in the region, but also by the fact that they are amazingly positive and bright colors that have the capability of going with pretty much anything.

As for the clothing itself, Latin Americans are known for their button shirts, jeans, and sunglasses. That is arguably the most common outfit one could potentially find in this region, in the color pallete described above of course.

Europe

Europe’s taste in fashion is a little bit more on the “reasonable” side. Folks in this region don’t necessarily enjoy flashy colors or elaborate designs. They are more into darkish colors as they don’t have to shield themselves from the sun too much, meaning the color doesn’t have to absorb too much heat.

The most common clothing trends you can find in these countries are the swamp green, fur hooded coats in the Nordic countries, and classy full-body suits in the Mediterranean. We are purposely excluding Paris as it is very hard to determine the default style in that city due to it pretty much being the capital of fashion.

Overall, when you think of Europe, think of the swamp-green coat and tailor-made suits.

Asia

Asia has been slowly but surely shifting towards the “extravagant” fashion styles lately. Due to China becoming the biggest manufacturing machine in the region, many countries as well as Chinese citizens sudden;y had access to cheap designer clothes they could mix and match.

When it comes to men’s fashion in Asia though, it’s safe to say that it has remained formal, delving from the rails only in a few countries like Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan.

The most common fashion sense to see in this region is still a suit with a tie, but the suit with a cotton buttonless shirt behind it is getting all the rage now, as long as you can rock the pianist hairstyle that is.

Australia

Australian fashion styles are all about being cool, airy and versatile. The continent has a very diverse climate, but most of the population lives on the coasts, thus exposing themselves to a more subtropical climate.

This has driven Denim jeans to a completely new level of fame in Australia. Nowadays, almost every Australian has a sleeveless Denim jacket in their house, with light Denim Jeans just waiting to go together with it.

The reason is very simple. Jeans are versatile, cool and can be used in pretty much every outfit in Australian modernity.

Africa

Much like South America, the large part of African fashion is derived from the culture of the countries. Everything seems to be in bright colors with traditional decorations, minimal makeup and the appreciation of every single body type.

When it comes to men’s every-day fashion though, it’s safe to say that we have a very similar situation as in South America here as well. The buttoned shirts with shorts and sunglasses are the most common outfits you will find in almost every single country in Africa, even in the northern part.

The climate helps this outfit to remain relevant almost all year round, thus making it a very accessible path to local fashion for pretty much every person.
