Each season, Carolyn Massey’s look book has a tendency to convey a subversive innocence. The clothes are fun and youthful, anything but ordinary, yet the models show signs of melancholy. There is an artistic divide between the model and the clothes. However, Massey’s debut individual show bridges the divide between the models and her clothes. A beautiful harmony is created among morose models and a dark militaristic collection. Sharply tailored trench coats and capes offer edge, while elongated and cropped knits provide a gentle calm. Carolyn Massey works well with a light color palette, but it is in the dark that she truly excels.
