As one of the greats hailing from Belgium, Ann Demeulemeester is often referred to as a member of the Antwerp Six. She graduated from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in 1981. After designing freelance for others, she launched her own label in 1985 and presented her first womenswear collection in Paris in 1992 and menswear in 1996. Demeulemeester is known for her deconstruction and mixing of fabrics. Frayed and raw edges, draped fabrics, waistcoats and masculine slouch suits have become her signature.
